Cool Blu was a one-off project between Suburban Base engineer Austin Reynolds and happy hardcore producer Jan Salisbury. Featured on the Jungle Groove – Jazzy Beats mix, “Aqua Libra” samples the begiining of “Dance” by Brass Construction, form their self-titled album, and the bassline is pretty similar to “Devika” by Lonnie Liston Smith, from his album Visions of a New World.

Dallas rapper Scarface was an early adopter of Drum & Bass—a very early adopter and one of the only prominent stateside rappers to show love to DnB. This remix by Goldie was included on this single, released in 1995. Scarface released an even earlier Drum & Bass remix in ’94 which we’ll cover next month.

This track from Chameleon, AKA Global Communication, can be found on Logical Progression by LTJ Bukem. “Links” samples the beginning of the gay anthem “I Was Born This Way” by Carl Bean, released as a single on Motown Records. It also samples a line from Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.

Origin Unknown were most famous for Valley of The Shadows, but the releases they put out after that (like this one) were even better, in my opinion.

Rogue Unit, AKA Nookie, released this on the awesome Total Science 2 compilation.

I first heard this record on Silk Cut II by Snuggles and Slak, which is still one of my favorite mixtapes of all time.

“Coolin Out” appears on LTJ Bukem’s once-ubiquitous Logical Progression.

Nautilus appeared on the excellent compilation Uncharted Territories: Jungle Jazz 2.

This tune was featured on volume 5 of the classic Speed Limit 140 BPM+ series. It samples the Quantum Loop Mix of “Obsession” by Fuzzy Logic, most famously featured on Sasha and John Digweed’s Northern Exposure mixtape.

This record samples “Does Your Man Know About Me” by Raheim, from the Juice soundtrack.

Jazz Juice was another name for sometime-collaborators Alex Reece And Wax Doctor. This tune was on the first volume of the absolutely essential Artcore series. It samples “Natural Grown Man” by Black Velvet, from the album This is Black Velvet.

This cut samples “Flava In Ya Ear” by Craig Mack, from the album Project: Funk Da World.

JLM Productions is the name used by American producer Jamie Myerson, when he released records (like this one) on Reinforced.

Intranet was an alter ego of junglette Helen T. This single is available on discogs.

This track was featured at the end of the famous Dieselboy mixtape Drum And Bass Selection USA. The sample referenced in the title of this single is clearly Guru from Gang Starr, but I don’t know the exact record. Let me know if you do.

The Sentinel is a Nom de guerre that Photek used whenever he released a platter on Basement Records..

Terrorist is a pseudonym for the famous and prolific UK hardcore producer Ray Keith. This record samples “Shine on You Crazy Diamond” by Pink Floyd, from the album Wish You Were Here.
